Bio

A DJ with a strong background in classical music, DJ Inform has been steeped in music since his first days. Pushed from an early age to play piano, he decided in 1998 at age 16 to respectfully put that aside to focus on the art of turntablism and DJ’ing. He came up in an environment that stressed hard work and practice, and was able to transfer this work ethic into a new medium, putting all his focus into learning the art of the turntables.

Hailing from Columbus, Ohio, a city that is known as an underground hotbed for producing quality Jazz, Hip Hop, and Rock music, he has been influenced by all of this, but has been especially drawn to the Hip Hop and Jazz side, and has since moved far outside Columbus, touring the country multiple times and sharing the stage with some of Hip-Hop’s largest acts, such as Talib Kweli, Dead Prez, and Devin the Dude. He released his debut solo album, “The Cutting Room,” in 2010 to critical acclaim, making it onto tablist.net's top 10 best of 2010, and launching the album with a release show that featured other highly respected Hip Hop acts, Prince Paul (of De La Soul), Blueprint, Illogic, and J. Rawls. This instrumental album featured turntable scratching as the featured instrument, but also introduced DJ Inform as a producer, an area he has been working on with the same practice ethic instilled in him since his piano days.

At the end of 2010 DJ Inform released a side project with an MC he had been working with, the group was called The Green Brothers. All the beats and cuts on this album were by Inform, and the lead single "I Get Lifted" is approaching 20,000 hits on Youtube. The Green Brothers also rocked several notable shows, including playing the San Diego Medical Cannabis Cup and opening for respected hip hop acts such as Devin the Dude, Sadat X, Brother Ali, Prince Po, and others.

In addition to his Hip Hop DJ and production work, DJ Inform also plays frequently with different Jazz musicians, collaborating with an array of talented players out of Columbus and New Orleans, Louisiana. It is here that he can use his turntable as an instrument the most, as he is just another player in the band, and he gets to express his versatility on the instrument. He travels to New Orleans regularly to perform with various groups, and is in the midst of collaborating with some of the wealth of talent that city has to offer, hip hop, funk, or otherwise.

In 2011, DJ Inform is looking to the future and is busy creating more. Check back for updates!
